Pytanie: Is the university degree as an employent tool absolescent in the US?

( Wstecz )

Answer #1:

Many jobs are now being replaced by technology or outsourced to other countries with cheaper labor. But of course you already knew that. What I tell college bound kids is, study something you don't need to get hired for to make money. IT is good. There will always be computers and if you know it well, you can always work on your own and still make a living, you don't need someone to hire you. Accounting is another one, every business needs an accountant, you can do it alone. Also electrical engineer, auto technician, maintenance, carpenter, etc. None of these require you to get hired, you can go around handing out your business card to various businesses and people and you will find work. All those cars out there, millions and millions of cars, and a mechanic can't find work. Seriously? Every single building on this earth has electricity connected to it and an electrician can't find work? Really? All those houses that need repair and remodeling and a carpenter can't make money? You're joking right?

Answer #2:

Yes in many jobs, but there are jobs out there that do not require a university degree or it becomes a bonus

Answer #3:

The value of a college degree has been completely debased in recent years, mostly because 1) a degree in itself does not guarantee employment; 2) experience and history has shown us that the most creative in our society do not have degrees or have degrees that were totally unrelated to the field in which they established themselves; 3) colleges have become money machines for themselves by enrolling masses who really shouldn't be in college in the first place. As a consequence, industry has discovered thar there are lots of people waltzing around with pieces of paper that truly mean nothing.
The ultimate question is this: Should people still get degrees in the hopes of getting a job? There are no studies that I know of that give a clear-cut answer. In my field, I've hired people with degrees and with none. Anecdotally, degree-less workers always seem to work harder than the degreed who seem to feel as though the world owes them something.
Good luck in trying to resolve this question.
